These drives are custom made for all Hobie and Hobie style locks that appear on many different kayak manufacturers since the patent has expired. Drives can be purchased without powerheads and KB mounts. The customer always has options.

New for 2026/27 is the V3 Hobie Drop-in with a more robust driveline and 2.1:1 drive ratio for improved speed and acceleration. Attached is the newly developed KB mount that fits all 28mm drive tubes for both gas and electric conversions. These drives will accept both the 35 and 50cc powerheads. Custom throttles, kill switch relocations, and stainless clutch bearings are a few of the unique customizations that can be added to the build.
If the engines get water on them without cleaning and doing general preventive care, the clutch housing bearing can rust due to sitting water. Even though the bearings are sealed, not maintaining the system will lead to parts in need of replacing. The following notes address greasing the bearing and sealing the contact area with RTV to help with water intrusion.
